Introduction:

Cambridge School is an independent,  nurturing educational environment for children who have been diagnosed with primary language-based learning differences.

We start at age 5, providing students with the opportunity to begin an academic career built on success, and continue through grade 8. Our students are of average to above average intelligence.

Recognizing the role that language plays in academic success, we have based our program on the Orton-Gillingham Method and we also offer Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes™ and Wilson Language Program. Our curriculum is individualized, comprehensive, multi-sensory and representative of a traditional private elementary and middle school.

The Cambridge School curriculum is language-based and utilizes a highly structured, sequential, multi-sensory approach. Multi-sensory teaching is integrated throughout the curriculum, in every subject. The curriculum is representative of a traditional elementary and middle school enhanced to meet the learning needs of our students. In addition, we at Cambridge believe that instructional activities should appeal to all forms of intelligence. Research shows us that if children have an opportunity to learn through their strengths, they are more successful at learning all subjects. Because many of our students have difficulty processing language in its various forms, language development skills are emphasized in every class. These language skills include listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Students are placed in small groups that are formed according to instructional level and learning profile; individual help is provided when needed. There are three periods of language arts each day – reading, writing, and language skills.

To ensure that our students are prepared for an increasingly technological world, SMART Board™ interactive whiteboards have been installed in every classroom. These whiteboards help make the teacher’s lessons more memorable because students are more engaged and motivated in the classroom. Cambridge School is proud to offer our students this computer based learning tool that supports their learning difference and advances their educational experience.
