Mission Statement

The Cambridge School was founded on the belief that every child deserves the opportunity for an excellent education. We are committed to providing this education for children who learn differently. Our program is individualized to meet each child's needs with his/her welfare and academic progress being our primary objective.

Our teaching approach is based on the Orton-Gillingham method, tailored to meet each student's needs. The Orton-Gillingham approach is widely recognized as the leading method of teaching children with language-based learning differences. In addition we offer Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes as part of our program. Lindamood-Bell has pioneered programs to develop the sensory-cognitive processes that underlie reading, spelling, math, visual-motor skills, language comprehension, and critical thinking. Wilson Language Program is also an integral component of our program. The Wilson Reading System is a research-based program designed for individuals who have difficulty with written language in the areas of decoding and spelling. The instruction is also highly successful with students who have been unable to learn decoding and encoding through traditional methods or other phonics programs. All language specialists are formally trained in all three methods.

Cambridge is a small school where teaching, learning, and personal relationships are paramount. Our curriculum provides for the development of specific academic skills, builds a foundation of knowledge on those skills, and stimulates intellectual curiosity.

We provide a multi-sensory, whole-child approach to education in a non-clinical, nurturing, traditional school environment. We promise our students opportunities to explore their interests, feel confident in their abilities, believe in their own worth, and develop the skills necessary to achieve success.
