Community Service

We view community service as an important part of the Cambridge School philosophy. The goal of the program is to teach the students the concept of giving at an early age. Students are shown the rewards of positive contributions to the community at large through various service projects throughout the year such as gleaning apples at Terhune Orchard for Farmers Against Hunger and running coat drives for Home Front.

It is hoped that the community service component will encourage the development of civic-minded individuals who have a concern for the common good of society and a respect for the values and opinions of others. It is also hoped that our students will benefit from a wide variety of opportunities to apply acquired knowledge and skills, to develop important new skills and feel a sense of connection to the "greater community".

Cambridge School students hold annual fundraisers for various charities. In 2007-2008, we held weekly bake sales to raise funds for Heifer International an organization committed to ending hunger in the world. Also, in conjunction with gym class, the Cambridge School community raised $10,000 for Jump Rope for Heart.

It is our belief that the Community Service Program will encourage an ongoing, consistent commitment to helping others.
